Health, Safety and Nutrition

This course provides a foundation for developing good health, safety, and nutrition practices for self and others, with a special focus on young children. Students will begin to understand health practices that emphasize mental health and well-being, basic hygiene, illness prevention, and physical health while nurturing children’s dispositions to learn. They will also learn to identify and mitigate hazards in a child’s environment, be prepared for emergencies, and foster a safe and responsive learning environment. This course also encourages educators to engage as co-learners and co-researchers, reflecting on their practices and making intentional decisions regarding the nutritional needs of children and how to encourage healthy eating habits.
