Evidence-based practice: Research, Leadership & Indigenous Ways of Knowing
This is a multi-faceted course that will allow you to be well rounded in your entry to practice as a social worker. The emphasis of this course includes introducing the capacity for multiple world views and ways of knowing, specifically an Indigenous Way of knowing. Students will gain an understanding of research and applied research within the social service sector. Research with be taught from both an Indigenous and a Western lens, increasing an appreciation and capacity for multiple ways of knowing and being. The second half of the course you will engage in an introduction to concepts of human service organizations which will prepare you for entry level practice. Students will learn concepts of organizational culture, theories of organization and leadership and a strong focus on self-leadership and reflective practice.
