Dr. Brian Duffels began at Medicine Hat College in the summer of 2019 and is a psychology instructor with expertise in grounded neurocognition. Very broadly, his research is concerned with the behavioural consequences of one's neurological representations of conceptual knowledge.
Brian's enthusiasm for teaching is most evident when he is explaining the evidence for the evolutionary and theoretical underpinnings of human behaviour. His courses are deep dives into the foundations of psychology, challenging the definitions and perspectives that are commonly accepted without scrutiny.
All of Brian's lectures are caffeine-fueled discussions designed to help students to develop stronger critical thinking skills. His lectures are recorded and notes are provided in advance, so students needn't worry about writing as quickly as he talks.
Every course also offers the opportunity to complete optional assignments to transfer weight off upcoming exams, allowing students to customize their educational experience with regard to topics and learning objectives. Brian's students quickly come to appreciate his superior taste in coffee, music, and pets.
