Christy Gust (B.A/B.Ed., M.Ed.) is a full-time instructor in the Education program at Medicine Hat College. Her scholarly work is in the field of pre-service teacher education and preparation, with a focus on indigenous perspectives in education, experiential learning and high leverage teaching practices. Her published works explore the student voice and perspective regarding teaching pedagogy and best practices. Christy highly values lifelong learning and considers herself a learner centered teacher with a strong reflective practice. Getting to know her students and supporting their successes and struggles as they learn what it takes to become a teacher in a complex landscape, is incredibly rewarding for Christy. Her ongoing learning of First Nations, Métis and Inuit history, culture and knowledge is from a listener and learner stance and she encourages and creates opportunities for her students to explore and learn about indigenous history in a similar way: learning, listening, supporting and committing to actions of reconciliation.
In her spare time, Christy enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and three children and traveling near and far, preferably in a restored old Ford van. She has a love and passion for the rural life from growing up on a ranch just north of Medicine Hat. She loves the challenge of riding and training her horse, Dually, and competes locally in barrel racing.
