Clint Lawrence has a Bachelor of Arts - history (distinction) and a Master of Arts – history both from the University of Lethbridge. He is currently completing a PhD in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. Since 2015, Clint is a full-time instructor in the Humanities and Social Sciences teaching the history and art history courses. Specifically, he instructs courses in Canadian, European, and American history as well as art history surveys, modern art, and design history. His doctoral research focuses on the lived experiences of Indigenous service members in the Canadian Army during the Second World War.
The important skill/experience that Clint gained from his undergraduate degree that stuck with him was that he learned to effectively use what he calls “Minutes from heaven” are those spare moments between classes or working that can be filled with reading and working on upcoming assignments. You may also use them to recharge for the next task – listening to music or doing a short workout activity. These minutes are most plentiful at the beginning of the semester before the pace picks up. Don’t let them slip by!
Clint loves teaching exploring history through sources produced at the time we are studying. It helps us understand the world from the perspective of the people living at a particular time. Music, art, literature, journals, and newspapers provide fascinating first-hand accounts of history which brings it to life. In understanding the past, we realize that we cannot judge actions of the past by the values of people living today but we first seek to understand people in the past.
Fun Fact – Clint’s favorite drink: Every morning – coffee – black. No exceptions
