Colleen Andjelic is the Education Program Coordinator and an instructor in the Mount Royal University Bachelor of Education partnership program at Medicine Hat College. This role, in addition to her experience as a former K-12 teacher, administrator and department head, as well as working with the Critical Thinking Consortium, has led Colleen to present at numerous local, national, and international conferences such as Alberta Education’s Social Studies Institute, the University of Calgary Taylor Institute, and the World Federation of Associations for Teacher Education Conference. Her author credits include writing for the Canadian International Development Agency, The Critical Thinking Consortium, Great Unsolved Mysteries of Canadian History, Library and Archives Canada, and the Canadian Association for Teacher Education, among others. Her scholarly interests include pre-service teacher education, social studies education, educational technology, assessment, and critical thinking. She has also had the privilege of leading various teacher communities of practice on several of these topics and has acted as a consultant to Alberta Education. Colleen's teaching style is dynamic with a wide range of approaches such as interactive games, class discussions, problem-solving, presentations, creative and critical thinking, collaboration, experiential learning, etc. These approaches allow students to better engage with the content, learn it more deeply, and transfer it into their real-world practice. A topic she particularly likes teaching is how to ask powerful questions. In her class, you can expect high energy, high standards, and a commitment to helping every student reach their learning goals. Her favourite thing about teaching at Medicine Hat College is that while it has a big-school feel, it has a gigantic, small-school heart! A fun fact about Colleen is that she earned her private pilot's license before getting a driver's license. In her spare time, Colleen loves gardening, cooking, DIY-ing, camping, and devouring a good book.
