College invites public to community job fair
Summer positions, internships and permanent career opportunities available throughout the region will be easy to explore at Medicine Hat College (MHC) on Wednesday Jan. 29, 2025.
The annual Community Job Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Medicine Hat campus, with no registration required for jobseekers to attend.
“This event, focused on the community, is designed to offer something for everyone in attendance. Exhibitors that have registered so far are quite diverse, representing a lot of different industries, and many will have jobs available for members of our community of students and all jobseekers in Medicine Hat and area,” says Shelly Drefs, career services assistant with MHC’s Career Centre.
“Currently we have around 55 organizations registered to be on campus that day, so we are excited to connect local jobseekers with these employers”.
For those attending the event in hopes of finding employment opportunities, Drefs says that coming prepared with questions is the key to success.
“Networking is an important part of finding any job and the Community Job Fair is an opportunity to make a great first impression. We recommend that attendees are prepared to make conversation and, in some cases, take an on-the-spot interview.”
She adds that attendees should aim to speak with as many exhibitors as possible and follow up with those they are interested in applying to, for better chances of landing an interview post-event.
“Some employers will be accepting resumes at the event while others will be talking about their hiring process and will direct applicants to apply on their websites. Learning more about the opportunities, how to apply, and how to stand out from other applicants is a benefit of attending the Job Fair,” explains Drefs.
“Jobseekers can also talk to career experts about services available, such as resume and interview support, job search strategies, and career decision making in general.”
Approaching the event, MHC is still accepting applications for exhibitors. Interested employers can sign up at www.mhc.ab.ca/campus-services/student-career-services/events.
